Music in the yard and Feel Good Fridays
On Fridays at first break, we listen to music and can dance and sing along. It really helps to put us all in a good mood.
Playground leaders
Playground leaders were selected from our Active Committe. These leaders are in charge of leading the active lines.
Yard Walkway
We have a walkway around the perimeter of our school yard. We use this walkway for challenges, such as the Walk Around Ireland challenge. We also use it for Outdoor and Adventure PE lessons and Orienteering. As we prepare to move to our new school site, we are planning for a new walkway around the new school.
Active Breaks
We recognise the importance of active breaks and movement breaks and the benefits that these can have for the children. We took part in the four week active break every day challenge. Some of the active breaks that we participated included skipping, running, dance breaks and more.
Run Around Ireland
Each class took part in the Run Around Ireland. Every day for four weeks, each class went outside and ran as many laps of the yard as they could. Each lap counted as 1km. At the end of the week, we counted up how many kilometres we covered as a whole class. We then calculated what distance was covered, with the aim of reaching many locations across Ireland.
Active Halloween- Spooky Walk
On the final day of school before our October mid term break, all children took part in a Spooky Walk. The children were invited to dress up. We then walked all the way to our Church yard, where there were spooky decorations. We walked around the spooky trail and enjoyed all of the decorations. It was a really fun way for us to celebrate Halloween, all while staying active!
Active Lines
After each break, when the children are lining up to return to their classrooms, the children participate in active lines. The playground leaders lead different exercises and activities each day for each class to ensure that we take every opportunity we can to stay active.
