June 2025

What a busy and exciting month we've had in Junior and Senior Infants!
We had a very special visit from some scaly and fascinating creatures during our Reptile Encounter! The children absolutely loved feeding the tortoise, bravely holding snakes, and learning lots of fun facts about lizards. It was a day full of wide eyes, curious questions, and big smiles! Our school tour to Causey Farm was a big highlight of the month. From making giant bubbles to exploring the mineshaft tunnels, there was never a dull moment. The children had so much fun meeting all the animals and experiencing everything the farm had to offer. A day to remember! June also marked a special milestone as we celebrated the official opening of our school building. It was a proud and joyful occasion for everyone at St. Peter’s. Another day filled with excitement was our Sports Day! The sun was shining and spirits were high as the children enjoyed a full day of games and activities. Don’t forget to check out the Sports Day page on our website to see all the great photos!
In Maths, we’ve been learning all about capacity. With the warm weather, water play made learning even more fun! The children enjoyed measuring, pouring, and experimenting with different containers while cooling off. Perhaps the most exciting news of all--we welcomed Kelsey, our new school therapy dog, to St. Peter’s! The children have absolutely loved getting to know her. We even created our own drawings of Kelsey, which are proudly displayed in our classroom.
It’s been a joyful and activity-packed month as we wrap up a wonderful school year. Wishing all our families a happy and safe summer break!

May 2025

May was another wonderful month of learning, laughter, and creativity for our Junior and Senior Infants! The sun was shining, the flowers were blooming, and we were busy from start to finish with lots of hands-on experiences and exciting activities.
We continued our gymnastics workshops this month, and the children showed amazing confidence and coordination as they explored the bars, tried out the pommel horse, and practiced their balance on the beam. It’s been fantastic to see their strength and skills grow each week!
To mark the end of Book Week, the children had the chance to dress up as their favourite book characters, and what a colourful and imaginative day it was! From superheroes to fairytale friends, the classrooms were filled with the magic of stories brought to life.
A big highlight this month was starting our new Socio-Dramatic Play Area – The Garden Centre! The children loved taking on different roles such as customers, shopkeepers, and gardeners. They practiced making orders, serving customers, and even paying for items using play money. It was a brilliant way to combine imaginative play with real-life skills.
We also had a very special visitor – a pet chicken! The children were fascinated to learn all about how to care for chickens, what they eat, and where eggs come from. It was a great opportunity to connect with nature in a fun and memorable way.
Speaking of nature, we got green-fingered this month by planting our own cress seeds. The children learned all about the parts of a plant, how plants grow, and what they need to survive. They also got creative decorating their own plant pots, making each one unique and colourful. Watching their seeds sprout was such a joyful experience and gave everyone a real sense of pride.
May has been full of discovery, imagination, and growth – both in the classroom and in our little pots of cress! Well done to all our brilliant boys and girls for another amazing month.

The children loved discovering more about these fascinating birds and even got to learn the parts of a bird, like feathers, beaks, and wings! To get ready for Easter, we got creative with some Easter-themed art. The children made their very own Easter baskets and took part in an exciting Easter egg hunt in the school garden – there were smiles all around as they searched for chocolatey surprises!
A special highlight was our walk to the church to attend our lovely Easter Service, which the children really enjoyed. We also had great fun with an Easter Bonnet Parade – thank you to all the families who helped make such beautiful and creative bonnets!Back at school, we added a twist to our Easter celebrations with an orienteering-style Easter egg hunt, which had us searching high and low and putting our teamwork and map skills to the test! I rith Seachtain na Gaeilge, tháinig scéalaí Niall de Búrca chuig ár rang agus d’inis sé scéalta grinn dúinn as gaeilge. D'imríomar cluiche biongó agus d'fhoghlaimíomar an haka gaelach. On Friday the 24th of February we welcomed our families and friends to our classroom for the annual ‘Come and See Day’ and also put on a great show with the whole school in the Oak Centre. On the last day of Term, we were so excited to bring in our Easter Bonnets that we had made at home. We also made Chocolate Easter Nests and got to eat them too! All of the hard work and practice paid off when we put on a fabulous show for all our parents, families and friends at the Christmas Carol Service.

In Aistear, we have been learning all about Celebrations and the Festive Season, by playing in the Elves Workshop. In Art, we have been using lots of different fabric and fibers to make Winter Gloves, snowflakes and santa’s!

Science Fun!

Our topic for Science was all about sound. We listened to sounds in and outside the classroom. We distinguished between high and low sounds and loud and soft sounds. As part of our Green schools initiative to reduce the amount of waste we use, we decided to use recycled bottles to make maracas. We used rice, salt, dried peas and pasta for each maraca and then tested to see which instrument made the loudest/softest sound. The pasta made the loudest sound and the salt made the softest sound
