What a game to complete the season! The team certainly peeked for the final game of the season winning on penalties thanks to some amazing saves and penalty spot kicks. We thought it was going to be an easy win by going in at the break 3-0 in the lead. However, Rathreggan came back really strongly in the second half and before we knew it, it was 3-3!! We still have over 15 mins to play and Rathreggan were looking stronger and stronger. However, we rallied, as we always do and even created chances for ourselves. We held out in normal time for a well deserved 3-3 draw. The game went to penalties and we managed to win 4-3 on penalties which was a great way to finish off a wonderful year for the soccer team.
St. Peter's Vs. St. Andrew's N.S
We continued our 11 a side games against St. Andrew’s, Curragha on Monday the 20th of May. We knew we were up against it, as we had encountered this team in the Primary 5s earlier in the year. The game started very even, and we managed to create a number of great chances ourselves. However, St. Andrew’s showed some great strength and resilience, and this showed as they went 2-0 quite quickly. However, St. Peter’s fought back and showed some great fight to get a goal of our own. The first half finished with a score of 5-2. At the beginning of the second half, St. Peter’s fought hard and managed to score 2 goals in quick succession. It was now 5-4! Unfortunately, St. Andrew’s experience showed as they went on to secure victory with two more goals. Once again, St. Peter’s did themselves proud and are constantly improving with every game!
St. Peter's Vs. Kildare Place School
WOW! What a start to our 11 a side games of the year. St. Peter's did themselves proud by winning their first 11 a side game against KPS, 2-1. They were magnificent throughout the game. Everyone gave it 100% and their attitude towards their opponents was something to be admired. We started the game very strongly by going 2-0 up in the first half. As the game continued and with added fatigue, KPS managed to score their first goal of the game. However, with some amazing defending and even a couple of good chances ourselves, we managed to hang in for the 2-1 victory. What a game everybody!! It was also an added bonus to meet Brian O' Driscoll!
Primary 5 a side Girls Soccer Tournament
This week it was the girls' turn to represent St. Peter's and without doubt they excelled in the way they conducted themselves both on and off the pitch. They played some outstanding football and should be so proud of their performances in every match. We got off to a flying start with a 3-2 win against a very formidable team. This was a wonderful result and showed the potential of this amazing girls' team.
The next game was a little more difficult as goals were hard to come by and we have to settle for a 1-1 draw but with some great saves from our goalie, we managed to win on penalties. Our third game proved to be the most frustrating as we dominated possession but couldn't seem to score and once again this ended in a draw. With some more great saves and also well taken penalties we managed to win this game on penalties too.
For the final game, as we got tired, concentration was certainly more challenging and we had to settle for a 3-2 loss. However, the girls showed some great promise for games to come. They are a very talented bunch! Well done girls!!
Primary 5 a side Soccer Tournament 2024
8 boys from St. Peter's took to the field today to represent the school in the first round of the Primary 5s (A FAI tournament which takes place in Navan every year) The boys did themselves, the school and of course Mr. Lowe proud with their performances. We even had an extra play-off game which meant we played a total of 7 games in the day! The boys truly gave it 100% in every match.
Our first game was against some very challenging opposition which unfortunately we didn't win but that test stood to us as the day progressed. We ended up drawing our second game with resulted in a penalty shoot-out. The boys showed no nerves in scoring all penalties and with the other team missing a penalty we registered our first points of the day. Our third game was a comfortable win and the boys were growing in confidence. We were then asked to play a 'play-off' game to determine whether we made it through to the next round. We managed to get the job done with a great 1-0 victory. We were through!!
The next part of the day were now more challenging teams who had all made it through the first round. We played really well in the first game and managed to secure a hard-earned draw. Fatigue was now a factor as the boys had been playing for a long time. Unfortunately, we couldn't secure any more points from the final two games but the boys should be proud of the way they conducted themselves and performed throughout the day. A special mention and thanks to the two Dads who kindly brought the boys to the MDL grounds in Navan and back again. Also, let's not forget the very kind Mum who treated all the boys to their very own ice-cream! Onwards and upwards boys!!!
St. Peter's brand new football kit was unveiled today in assembly!! How exciting for the school. Below is the photo of Eoghan Murray from the Property Shop who kindly sponsored our new school kit, presenting it to our captain of the football team. More photos of the school team to follow...
