Maths Week 2021! Junior - 1st Class

We had a very busy week in Numeracy this week.
On Monday we had a games day and played games such as snap, go fish, snakes and ladders, connect 4 and dominoes.
On Tuesday and Wednesday we did station work based on our topic of the week which was 2D Shapes. We used playdough to make shapes, we coloured shape pictures, and we sorted 2D shapes based on different attributes e.g thin/thick, blue, red, big and small.
On Thursday we had a quiz based on 2D shapes and on Friday we did 2D shape art based on the theme of Halloween.
Have a look below to see our class hard at work during Maths week!

Maths week 2021

5th & 6th Class

5th and 6th class had a great week for Maths week. We had a games day where we played with dominos, connect 4, card games & snakes and ladders. We held a maths quiz and used the whiteboard and Chromebooks to use Kahoot for our quiz which was lots of fun. We did puzzles such as tangrams which we then made some shape art out of. We played table games and code breakers. Looked at tessellating shapes and one of the favourites was plotting coordinates to make a picture.

Maths week 2020

Another year, another Maths Week! The children did a combination of Maths games and activities in their groups. We also watched some broadcasts from the Maths Week website. We watch a video about number patterns and tables tips, and some on Maths magic tricks and puzzles. On Friday, children went on Maths trails around the yard. The children had written their own questions for the trail as part of their homework. Each child got 3-4 different sets of questions to solve. They had a great time. What a success!

Maths Week 2019

JI and SI
We had great fun taking part in Maths Week. We did lots of work on the theme of 2D shapes and took part in Maths games with 2nd and 3rd Class!
2nd and 3rd Class
Maths Week was a big hit again this year. We partook in some fun games, Maths-inspired art and we used our Maths Eyes. We also joined up with Junior Infants, Senior Infants and 1st class to play games with them. St. Peter's also had their first Maths Week Quiz. Working in our house groups, children answered Maths questions and trivia.2nd and 3rd acted as teachers and helped the younger children with the rules... We definitely have some future educators in our midst!

Roll on Maths Week 2020!
4th, 5th and 6th Class
We had a blast in the senior room playing lots of great Maths games during Maths week this year!

Maths week 2018

It has been a very busy week here in St. Peter's N.S. as it has been Maths week. We have been doing lots of different Maths activities this week and looking at Maths in a different way.
On Tuesday 5th and 6th buddied up with Junior and Senior Infants and played Maths games in the hall. The older children helped the younger children to solve the problems. It was brilliant to see how patient 5th & 6th were and how helpful they were in explaining to the infants what to do and how to do it!
On Wednesday 1st and 2nd went to the hall and completed some NRich puzzels - they were quite tricky! But, by working in teams they managed to solve the problems. Well done 1st and 2nd class.
3rd and 4th class also played numerous Maths games in the hall including higher and lower with giant playing cards, chess and calculation stations.
On Thursday 5th and 6th and Junior and Senior Infants returned to the hall to make shape art! They used lots of different art materials to make strange and wonderful creatures. They are fantastic! Ask your child to tell you about their creature and what shapes they used to make it!
1st and 2nd class took Assembly this morning and showcased all the fun work they have been doing all this week for Maths Week. Well done 1st & 2nd class.
All of these activities were extra to the already on-going Maths lessons and extra Maths challenges set in class by teachers this week. Such a great fun! We have some fine Mathematicians in our midst in St. Peter's National School - that's for sure!
