On Wednesday 26th June Mairead from heritage in schools visited St. Peter's National School. She took Junior and Senior Infants on a walk around the church grounds. We explored some trees and went on a mini-beast hunt using magnifying glasses to study the insects. It was great fun!
School Tour
Junior, Senior, First and Second went on their school tour to Causey farm. We had great fun going on a tractor, going through the mirror maze, playing giant dominoes, and meeting Gloria the pig and Baa!!rbara the goat!!
June Aistear
For the month of June in Aistear we have been doing "The ice-cream parlour" We had lots of fun making different flavours of ice-cream. We also got to experiment with kinetic sand and make different types of ice-cream. We also had a go at making different shapes using the hama beads.
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom!!!!!!!!!
Junior and Senior Infants have had lots of activity in the classroom over the past few weeks. We had an incubator with 17 eggs. We had to make sure it was filled with water and we had to check each day off on our "chick watch" calendar. On Wednesday we had our first egg hatch and then there was no stopping them. We have 12 chicks altogether!!!! All the boys and girls thought of names and we drew them out of a hat - there were some very interesting ones - Pee-Wee, Charles Chickens and Eggspresso to name but a few. Take a look and see!

We have had lots of fun in P.E recently. We have been doing orienteering activities and we were very lucky to have some of 5th and 6th class come and set up obstacle courses for us!.
May Aistear - Theme - Mini-Beasts
This month our theme for Aistear was "Mini-Beasts" Some of our stations included investigating in a science lab, designing and making their own insects, using wooden blocks to build a bug hotel, making bug jigsaws on the I-pads, searching for insects in the sand and playing little bug bingo!
Our theme for Geography this month was "People who help us" and one of our parents was kind enough to visit our class and tell us what life is like as a guard
Recording Wizards!!
Junior and Senior infants tried out a new app on our i-pads called Chatterpix. Using the app, the pupils can take a photo of a piece of work they have completed and record their voices explaining what they have done. They can also decorate their work using various different pictures. It's a great way of showing off their work to their peers and also a great tool for self and peer assessment. We cant wait to show you our finished pieces at our Come and See day on Thursday 2nd May!!!
Easter Egg Hunt Fun!!!!
Spring has arrived and Junior and Senior Infants took advantage of the good weather to do our Spring Nature Walk around the school grounds. We were looking to spot some Spring flowers.
We have been very lucky to be able to participate in some Gaelic Football training delivered by the wonderful Theresa as part of the Meath Local Sports partnership. The pupils have learned lots of fun new games and developed some new ball handling skills.
Aistear in March
Our theme for the month of March was "Shopping." A huge thank you to the P.T.A for purchasing our new supermarket stand. The pupils had great fun with it this month. We also played the shopping trolley game, built our own shops using wooden blocks, worked with the I-pads, did some cutting and sticking activities based on the theme of shopping and dug for letters to make shopping words in the sand.
We had a very special birthday in our class on Friday. Our class teddy bear "Ginger" turned a big 5!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY GINGER!!!!!!

Fun in February !!!

Our theme for Aistear this month was the "Building Site." We had lots of fun with the building blocks and Lego. We were using the diggers in the sand and we were making pictures using different shapes. We also had fun with Lego games on the I-pads.

Our theme for Aistear this month was "Clothes." We had lots of fun washing clothes, role playing at the clothes shop, matching odd socks and using different materials to make our names.
We filled our ball jar for good behaviour and decided on a pyjama day. Miss Coyle got involved in the action too. We had lots of yummy treats!!
In Numeracy Junior Infants have been doing the number 5 and Senior infants have been doing the number 8. We have also been doing the topic of Length.

Christmas Fun in December
We did our buddy reading activity with 5th and 6th class again this month. The pupils love getting a visit from the older boys and girls and it's a great way to encourage their interest in reading.

2D Shape fun in Numeracy
During the month of November our theme for Aistear was "Space." The pupils worked in a travel agents, searched for planets and rocks in sand, played space related matching games on the I-pad, made space stations and rockets using building blocks and used 2D shapes to create their own rockets. It was a lot of fun!

Halloween Fun!!!!
Our buddy system with 5th and 6th Class is working really well. We did story time in Literacy this week.
As the children have been working so hard we have been able to fill our ball jar. The children were so excited. We made Halloween themed rice crispy buns and they were delicious. Yum Yum!!!
For our S.E.S.E topic we have been learning all about trees. We had an autumn scavenger hunt around the school grounds collecting different leaves for our classroom display
As well as doing lots of Maths the children have been working very hard on learning their sight words by doing lots of different activities.
Junior and Senior Infants had a great time getting involved in Maths Week. We buddied up with 5th and 6th Class and did games stations and we made 2D shape art pictures
Our theme for Aistear the month of October was the Farm.The children had great fun making scarecrows and owls on the arts and crafts station, role-playing in the farm shop and doing farm activity games on the i-pads.
Junior and Senior Infants have been super busy for the month of September working on their numeracy and taking part in Aistear. We have also been doing lots of art based on our nursery rhymes.
