A big thank you to Ms. Beattie who came in to teach us all about coding. They had to create a line of code to instruct the Minecraft character to get from one point to another. There were various level and the children went through many of them. 2nd and 3rd class really enjoyed the session. Some of the children did even more coding when they went home.
Last month, we were learning about Ireland, in particular the counties and provinces. For homework, each child picked a county to research and do a project on. I was absolutely blown away by the standard and the effort children put into their work. Amazing work 2nd and 3rd class. Keep it up for the next project.
Maths Week was a big hit again this year. We partook in some fun games, Maths-inspired art and we used our Maths Eyes. We also joined up with Junior Infants, Senior Infants and 1st class to play games with them. St. Peter's also had their first Maths Week Quiz. Working in our house groups, children answered Maths questions and trivia.2nd and 3rd acted as teachers and helped the younger children with the rules... We definitely have some future educators in our midst!
Roll on Maths Week 2020!
Takeda Dunboyne paid a very welcome visit to St. Peter's on Friday. They taught children from 2nd -6th class different Science concepts through three different stations. The activities were based on chromatography, circits and non-Newtonian fluids. All children had a fantastic, hand-on experience and they all spoke positively about the visit afterwards. Thanks again to Takeda for coming out and educating the future scientists in St. Peter's! Have a look at what we got up to below... Check out the 4th, 5th and 6th class page to see even more pictures!
2nd and 3rd class experimented with colour mixing and made beautiful colour wheels. When then turned our colour wheels into fantastic works of art. I think you'll agree that they came out very well and that they are all so unique! Well done!
For Geography last month, we studied Dunboyne and other areas that we know. We then compared these areas to the rural island of Inis Meáin. Inis Meáin is a small Gaeltacht island off the coast of Galway. The children really enjoyed learning about the island and imagining life there.
In September, 2nd and 3rd class learned about Growth mindset. We discussed the differences between having a fixed and growth mindset. We talked about how to be more positive and optimistic in our work, social and personal lives. Have a look at some of our ideas below.
